Annual Practising Certificate

The Annual Practising Certificate (APC) is issued to practitioners who meet the requirements set by the Dietitians Board. The APC is valid for up to 12 months. A practising year runs from 1 April until 31 March the following year.

It is important for employers to note that a registered practitioner will be committing an offence if he or she practises without an annual practising certificate.

Practitioners who apply for an annual practising certificate will have to meet certain minimum recertification requirements. This includes undertaking of continuing professional development, maintaining regular peer contact and meeting required professional and practice standards.

It is the practitioners responsibility to ensure their APC is current.

For clarity – if you employ a Registered Dietitian they should hold an APC if:

  • They are using their knowledge and skills as a dietitian in their job.
  • They use their dietetic knowledge (qualification) in their employment.
  • Their job description requires them to be a Registered Dietitian.
  • The position they are employed in requires that they are a health professional.
  • They call themselves a dietitian (or represent in any manner that they are authorised to practise dietetics).
