Kia ora and welcome to the website of the Dietitians Board in New Zealand
Dietitians wishing to practise in New Zealand must, by law, be registered with the Dietitians Board and must hold a current practising certificate. This website explains the role of the Dietitians Board, what dietitians must do to be registered and practise, and how complaints against dietitians are handled.
The Board has defined one 'Scope of Practice'. Please click on this link for the Board's 'Statement of Registration Competency Requirements'.
IMPORTANT: Change of Board contact details: The Board has now moved premises. The new address is Level 3, 195-201 Willis Street, Wellington; the changed email address is dietitians@dietitiansboard.org.nz and the new fax number is 0064 4 474 0709. All other details remain the same. Forms on the website have not yet been changed, so please note these details.
The "Site Map" is the quickest way to navigate this website. Sub headings, e.g. "Maintain Competency" are alphabetically listed in the white boxes below the green subject area.
Please note: The Board raised Practising Certificate fees to $450 for the 08/09 year. However the fee to renew your APC if you held an APC in the 07/08 year, is now overdue. If still practising without a current APC, you are practising illegally and the gazetted fee is $600. Please send this payment and the documentation in immediately, or inform the Board urgently in writing if you wish to be marked 'Inactive' this year. Information on APC Renewals is on the "Practitioners: APC Renewals" page.
1) The Dietitians Board and the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) entered into a "Mutual Recognition Voluntary Relationship Charter", effective from 1 October 2007. For information on this agreement, please click on the following link: 'Mutual Recognition Voluntary Relationship Charter'. If you are an Australian dietitian who is eligible for registration in New Zealand under 'mutual recognition', please download the 'application form' and 'payment form'. Please click this link for a flow chart on the basics of how it works.
2) The Board has instigated an on-line 'Cultural Competency' course (please click here for access to the course background and the link), which includes an on-line test. Successful completion of this course is essential for Australian dietitians applying for registration under 'mutual recognition'. The Registrar is able to verify a 'pass' in this course, (prior to issuing Australian dietitians with registration).
3) Overseas trained dietitians wishing to consider applying to register in New Zealand, need to carefully read the website page: "Registration - Qualified Outside NZ, and FAQ's". The 'Information Handbook on Registration Procedures for Overseas Trained Dietitians' is posted on this page also. Please read it carefully.
4) Please click on this link for the CCP Audit template-which can be downloaded and written on.
5) 'Supervision Guidelines': please click on this link for Supervision guidelines and Supervision agreement.
