The Dietitians Board is appointed under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.
The Board has published an information leaflet (PDF) outlining its functions, the scope of practice, Board membership and Board committees and functions.
The Board:
- prescribes qualifications for scopes of practice by dietitians.
- accredits and monitors educational institutions and programmes.
- grants registration of dietitians and issues practising certificates.
- reviews and promotes the competence of dietitians
- deals with cases of dietitians who may be unable to perform professionally.
The Board has defined one Scope of Practice, namely:
Dietitians apply scientific knowledge about food and nutrition to individuals and groups in states of health and disease to promote optimal health outcomes within the social, economic and cultural context of the New Zealand population.
Qualifications required:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics; or
- Equivalent qualification and pass in a Board examination, or any other assessment set by the Board.
