- THOSE RETURNING WITHIN THREE YEARS OF PRACTISING DIETETICS IN NZ
When you decide to return to work then you need to:
- Complete and send in a signed Application for an APC form. Download the Application form from Section B of the APC Renewals page on the website, or contact the Registrar if you need it posted. You need to include the APC payment of $450 (or $240 if after 1 December) and:

- APC credit summary form, noting the CC you have done over the past year, OR if this is not possible,
- Send in a learning plan. This will need to be approved by the Continuing Competence Committee.
- You will need to sign the declaration to say you will be participating in the CCP from this time onwards.
- DIETITIANS RETURNING FROM PRACTISING DIETETICS OVERSEAS
If you have recently practised dietetics overseas, you will need to:
- Complete and send in a signed Application for an APC form. Download this form from Section B on the APC Renewals page on the website, or email the Registrar if you need it posted. You need to include the APC payment of $450 (or $240 if after 1 December) and:
- Proof of practice, e.g. a Certificate of Good Standing from overseas (if applicable), Certificate of Health Professions Council registration, and any Performance Appraisals, summary of work experience, reference and/or any information about continuing competence programmes you have participated in. At least two relevant documents are required.
- You will need to sign the declaration to say you will be participating in the CCP from this time onwards.
- The committee may ask for a mentor/Learning Plan to be approved, if you supply insufficient documentation.
- DIETITIANS WHO HAVE NOT PRACTISED DIETETICS IN NZ OR OVERSEAS, FOR OVER THREE YEARS

Send to the Registrar:
- a detailed Curriculum Vitae (including previous relevant work experience, time out of dietetic work)
- recertification request (provided by registrar) and records of any Continuing Competency activities that have been undertaken while out of dietetic work
- identification of a mentor/workplace supervisor
- if appropriate, provide a description of the job you are applying for
Registrar* (in consultation with the Continuing Competency Committee) will advise on your individual return to work needs
(this will relate to the time you have been out of the workforce, previous dietetic experience, whether continuing competency has been undertaken or not, and area of dietetic work to be commenced)
Individual return to work requirements may include:
Retraining plan (for a few),
(this may include writing a learning plan with the help of your approved mentor, self study, voluntary work, joining NZDA SIG groups, University nutrition or dietetic papers, retraining through employer, paralleling, and will most likely include supervision)
Developing a Learning plan,(refer to link above)
(based on Entry Level Competencies and in consultation with your workplace supervisor or mentor).
Commencement of a Supervision Agreement
Before commencement of your work, send the completed and signed, Supervision Agreement Section 1, to Dietitians Board,
Registrar will issue Interim Practising Certificate (IPC), or
Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
(with or without conditions).
Commencement of work and Continuing Competency Programme
At the end of your specified supervision period, have your supervisor, complete , sign and return the Supervision Agreement Section 2, to the Registrar a.s.a.p.
Registrar will provide APC (without conditions),
(Once the supervision agreement is completed to the satisfaction of supervisor and Dietitians Board).
CCC Audit
(usually one year after final supervision signoff).
